At SLNG, we believe that all work should be carried out safely, or not at all. Meet Ahmad Izwan Abdul Samad, our Senior HSSE (Health, Safety, Security & Environment) Officer, who plays a pivotal role in upholding our safety standards.
Q: Tell us about your role at SLNG.
I oversee the safety of various critical activities at the SLNG Terminal, such as confined space works, lifting operations and work carried out at heights, just to name a few. On top of this, as the Terminal’s appointed Fire Safety Manager, registered with the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF), I am responsible for ensuring compliance regarding any fire and emergency-related matters.
Q: Could you share a memorable experience from your career so far?
One memorable achievement in SLNG that stands out for me is when SLNG received the WSH Performance (Silver) Award from the Workplace Safety and Health Council. This was achieved through a concerted team effort across departments and a proud moment for us.
Q: What advice would you give to someone pursuing a career in HSSE?
Focus on building a strong foundation in both technical knowledge and interpersonal skills. Be proactive in identifying potential risks and proposing improvements. Always stay up-to-date on the latest industry trends and best practices as HSSE is a constantly evolving field.
